MP70
The
Long Island MP70 "double deckers", having high and low seats with only
one level of flooring, unlike today's C3 "bi-levels", with two actual
floors, were first produced in 1937, 3 cars were delivered with the
balance delivered between 1947 and 1949, and only lasted into the late
60's to early 70's. They were not popular with the women passengers or
the conductors. These were "MU" cars running on third rail power.
Today, only the original car delivered, no. 200, survives in Riverhead,
it was the first all aluminum car produced and is 8 feet shorter than
any other MP70.
